
YIWS Programming for 2008 - 2009**Classes begin the last week of October after the holidays Men and Women's Shiur: Parsha PerceptionsWednesday Evenings - 8:00 pm - 8:45 pm This class will provide an overview of the weekly sedra by providing key insights into the weekly parsha. Textual sources will be provided and various commentaries. Men's Class: Topics in TorahSunday Mornings - after the 8:30 minyan This class will explore and conceptualize a wide-breadth of halachic and hashkafic topics with source material provided. New topics will be explored each week with the class geared toward lomdus and sophisticated analysis. Breakfast will also be provided. Tefillah Class:10 Minutes before morning minyan (Monday-Friday) In this class we study the lectures of HaRav Moshe Wolfson-Mashgiach Ruchani of Yeshiva Torah Vodas about different dimensions of Jewish prayer. Women's Monthly Class in Halacha:Schedule to be done in conjunction with Women's League MeetingTopics will include issues on shabbos and kashrus. MDS Parenting LecturesOne Morning a month (TBA) in the Manhattan Day School On a monthly basis lectures are presented for mothers focusing on the challenges and rewards of raising children. This support group will emphasize effective parenting techniques and building self-esteem, as well as Torah perspectives on parenting. The group is meant as a forum where mothers can share their experiences and insights with one another. Topics include- Indispensable Tools to Reach Our Children - Listening & Empathy, Enemies of a Happy Home-Rivalries & Criticism, Coping with a Hostile Environment-TV, Videos & Internet, Heroic Parenting- Love, Attention & Affection, Securing our Futures in Turbulent Economic Times-The Importance of Respecting our Children, Cultivating Uniqueness in our Children, Helping Our Children Cope With Loss and Terror, Peer Pressure and External Influences-Good or Bad?? **Rabbi Dovid Cohen, presenter of these lectures is available for private consultation on these and other issues. These informal "get-togethers" are hosted in the homes of YIWS members on a rotating basis. Friday Night Tisch (winter months only)This is an opportunity to sing zemirot and discuss the weekly parsha.
