Q: Who Is Being Elected?

A: As per Article VI of the YIWS Constitution, the officers of the organization shall consist of:

• President – To act as Chairman of all Executive Board meetings and General Membership meetings, as well as to follow up on activities of all officers and committee chairpersons to be sure that their duties are being carried out.
  It shall also be the responsibility of the President to work with the Chairman of the Board of Trustees on the appointment of the members of the Board of Trustees. 

• A minimum of 3 but no more than 6 Vice Presidents, one of whom is to be designated as First Vice President.
  The VPs assist the President in carrying out his duties, to substitute for the President in his absence, and to resume responsibility for at least one (1) function required by the organization, i.e. committee chairmanship, publications, communications, etc.
  The First Vice President – In addition to the duties outlined for VPs is to be prepared to take full charge as President for the remainder of the term in the event that the President shall fail or cease to act.

• Treasurer – To act in a supervisory capacity by meeting with the secretary in the office once a month for the purpose of going over all a financial statement of all cash receipts and reimbursements, as well as fund raising to assure proper cash flow.

• Comptroller – To prepare the tax returns for the organization annually.

• Financial Secretary – To be in charge of accounts payable, i.e., review all bills and sign checks in payment thereof.

• Recording Secretary – To take all minutes of all Executive Board meetings, as well as General Membership meetings.

• Gabbai – To assume responsibility for religious services in the synagogue.

• 2 Delegates of the National Council of Young Israel  

• Chairmen of all Standing Committees – The chairmen of these committees should be appointed by the President.

All of the above positions have a tenure of one (1) year.

Chairman of the Board of Trustees – To act as Chairman of all meetings of the Board of Trustees, as well as appoint the members of the Board of Trustees, together with the President.  Since, constitutionally, this position has a tenure of 3 years it is not up for re-election in 2008.

Q: Who is eligible for election on the Executive Board and how do I stand?

A: Any member in good standing (paid through 2007) who is a holiday and Sabbath observer shall be eligible to hold office. 

Q: Who can vote in the elections?

A: Only good standing members can vote in the elections.  One vote per member.  Please note that in the case of a family membership a maximum of 2 votes are permitted per household.
